All Word files can be read and edited in Google Docs.

If you would like to convert your current Word (or Excel, Powerpoint) files please ensure that you have Convert Uploads enabled in Google Drive.

To enable Convert Uploads:

In Google Drive click on the Settings icon and select Settings


In the Settings options ensure that the Convert Upload option is ticked.



The you can drag and drop your existing Word files into Google Drive and they will automatically be converted to Google Docs format.


The Google Docs document can then be edited or shared with colleagues for collaboration.
